Fourth of July Highlights

Naturally our plans changed. We were supposed to stay home for a quiet celebration, going to our town's fireworks display the night of the 4th. Instead, at the last minute, DH decides he would like to take his brother up on his offer to come to his house for fireworks which were on Sunday. That was ok with me but we had some work to do! And thank goodness I had already been to Mass and the store. The kids happily (for once) quickly cleaned up and helped pack their bags for a night at grandma's and grandpa's while I worked furiously in the kitchen to whip up some old-fashioned potato salad and a yummy All-American Banana Split dessert while also cleaning up and gathering all our necessary food supplies. We had a quick lunch and off we went. The kids took a nap on the way which was a good thing as they ended up staying up way too late. But it was fun!

The kids colored these - only $1 each at JoAnn's!

A cute outfit.

We surprised the folks back home with a visit and had a regular old picnic of cheeseburgers, potato salad, corn, melon, and dessert. The kids played on the little playset. We talked, we laughed, we had fun. And later, we went to see the fireworks which are always wonderful to watch. I just love the gold shimmery ones that last and slowly fall down. And for a split second, I thought I saw a quick one that looked just like the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Amazing!

Glow-stick duels - the kids loved these (only $2 each at Michael's).

After a late night and an early morning (why do kids wake up early after staying up late?!), we spent some time with my parents before heading home for a quiet, hot afternoon of catch-up mowing and swimming before going to bed early!

And of course no Fourth of July is ever complete without some kind of injury. Poor Miss Bear! (Don't worry, her toe is only a little nicked up but she does milk it!)
